Hello and welcome to the Old School Carpentry Company. We are an independant company based in a beautiful Old School House in West Wales. The company was founded by Rory who has come from a background of historical restoration, and who is passionate about creating functional, timeless designs.

We produce a range of wooden products large and small, ranging from kitchen furniture to chopping boards. Our timber is British where possible and sourced from the surrounding Counties using sustainable sources. We also use reclaimed timber in many of our products, which gives a unique vintage feel to our designs.

We survived the BBC!

Rory Bernays

We are so glad to be back in Pembrokeshire after an eventful week in Birmingham. Our first ever show and we went BIG! the BBC good food show at the NEC. It was a fantastic success, with so many people interested in our work. The chopping boards were really popular, and make a useful, beautiful Christmas gift.

I think we have convinced a lot of people that having a feature piece such as a kitchen island or dining table made bespoke, where you as the client are in control of the design is the way forward.

The rural life suits us, and we will continue to be inspired by our sublime surroundings. Glad to be back out West!

Getting ready!

Rory Bernays

So our first ever blog!

We're working hard at the moment, we being Rory who designs, sources and creates all of our products, and me, Ruth, his long standing wife (well not that long standing! our first wedding anniversary is fast approaching).

Preparations for the BBC good food show are well underway. This is the first time we are taking on an event of this scale. For this the focus is on food preparation and kitchen furniture. So it's chopping boards, kitchen islands, and kitchen tables.

Chopping boards: we all need them! But what do you want from a chopping board?

Functionality, ease of use, design, quality, long life...I want all these things from my boards, and from everything I buy for my home, but does providence come into it. Do you care where the wood used to make a board comes from?

Rory is creating a few different styles, and has some very special boards which are very thick rustic Oak. This Oak came from a local specialist timber merchant. It came from trees that fell down in a big storm in 1952 on Stackpole Home Farm.  Now that's pretty special.  I look forward to the finished results!

Here's a sneak peak at some of the goodies!
